Of Lots of Chocolates, and Photos...
Thursday, May 28, 2009

Solaris, Mont Kiara, was still rather warm and humid when Kwo Kuang and I turned up at the quiet Schokolart. The ladies had yet to arrive, so we unassumingly surveyed the food selection that was available. A quick glance told us that there wasn't a whole great deal of choices for us, a fact which was later confirmed for us by the waiter, who cordoned off a small section of cakes that was for the buffet.

The menu that greeted us at the door.

Fruits!

In any case, it wasn't the buffet that was important, that day. =)

A very happy Yenli.

I'm not sure why I'm squinting.

Its always fun to catch up with this bunch of ever-energetic, bubbly, and irrepressible ladies.

Makes me feel old, in comparison.

Walking Among White Feathers and Furry Horns; The LG Blog Launch Experience
Friday, May 22, 2009

It was on a warm Friday night that a horde of bloggers converged on Metropol Bar, Menara Hap Seng, to witness the inaugural launch of LG Malaysia's lifestyle blog. Of course, being a blogger's event, no one arrives without a dash of style.

     Or, in this case, wings.

The theme for the night was Angels and Demons, and the bloggers were encouraged to dress to their nines in either the white rainment of the heavens, or red, the colour of evil do-ers and certain English football clubs.

One quick glance would indicate that more people preferred to be naughty, rather than nice.

As always, the reception area is a hotzone for the guests of the night to mingle and take tonnes of photos, before the event proper begins. When I arrived, both familiar and new faces were alight with joy at the opportunity to meet friends, and press the camera shutter button until their fingers were sore.

The Master of the Camwhore, Nicholas, goes into action.

The registration table with 2 pretty ladies - a must for every blogger event.

Beauty and the Beast - Serena C. and Freddy Krueger.

After the preliminary round of glamour, the bloggers were herded into the darkened (and air-conditioned, thank God) area, where the festivities for the night kicked off. The blokes over at LG cut pretty quickly to the chase, and began with the customary welcome speech. This was followed by the keynote address, delivered by LG's head honcho, Mr. T.Y. Ko. The launch of the blog was a significant step to bridging the gap between the electronics giant, and its large community of consumers.

Mr. T.Y. Ko, Serena C., Will Quah, and LG Angel, posing for the cameras.

The cameras, and armies of them, at that.

After the formalities, it was the bloggers' turn to take centrestage. So, what can one expect at a blogger's event organized by LG?

  Action!

The competitions began with the best angel/devil dancer shakedown, which sent everyone into gyrate mode. Here, you can see the Disney refugee work the floor, much to the amazement of the crowd.

The best dancers were sent up on the podium, where they had a short span of time to impress Serena C. and Will.

Here's Thomas and Kim...

...being judged by Serena and Will.

Mystery!

For those who were there that night, you may have noticed a masked character walking around, in the guise of Freddy Krueger.

Did you ever wonder who it actually was? Click on the picture to find out!

Redmummy meets the Nightmare on Elm Street.

Beauty!

The night progressed with another competition, this time round, the hunt was for the best dressed angel/devil, as well as the most 'confused' angel/devil. The catch of the night, the LG HD TV went to Kim Ong! and Redmummy!, who were both resplendent in their respective outfits. Kudos!

Jean and Kim Ong!

As for the most confused angel and devil, the prize went to Jovi, and Jolyn Goh.

Jolyn, bedecked in an angel costumes, glows radiantly - thanks to the yellow lights scattered about.

"Life's Good... when you look like Darth Maul.."

Heng Jovi.

The eye candy at the event was bountiful, and I'm very sure the male audience didn't have much to complain about, what with the beauties decked in wings (and horns) walking around every corner.

The cause of many nosebleeds.

The cause of many nosebleeds X 5.

Cindy the knockout! (complete with fork)

  Humour!

There was no shortage of laughter, as the bloggers worked the room.

Jenkin Yat removes his teeth before eating.

Nicholas, the Camwhore Master, is back.

The art of floating beer bottles is a highly kept secret, and is only practised by the skilled workers at Metropol Bar. Look at the concentration in the fellow's eyes, and you'll know that it is a feat which looks simple, but requires much concentration and discipline.

Romance!

With the low lighting, and music, there was bound to be a certain amount of love in the air, as can be seen by the close fellowship these people shared.

DavidandHsuJen share a tender moment.

Tianchadhands a flower to Jolyn, expressing his sincerest wish for friendship (and maybe more?)

"Me" Photos!

There will be an inordinate amount of photos of my own self (with the other bloggers), and if looking at repeated pictures of my visage doesn't really strike your fancy, click HERE! to skip to the end of the post.

Jolyn and I! ( It pays to come down all the way from Penang, doesn't it? =)

Simon, the misplaced Disney fan.

Lady Jane and I! (a very enthusiastic balloon-popper)

Li Ren and I! (also straight here from work)

Joshua and I! (apparently, up to no good)

Serena C. and I!

Hitomi and I! (look who's behind us! =)

Jamie and I! (helium addict, we are)

Cindy and I! (still with the fork)

Zoe, Hannah, and I! (yes, those are giraffe ears)

With that, the night came to an end, and the bloggers congregated outside to snap a group photo.

Nuffnangers!

Congratulations to LG for the successful launch of their lifestyle blog! For those of you who haven't seen it, head on to the
LG Blog, to find out more!

     Life's Good, indeed. =)

The Saturdays! Live @ Zouk, KL
Tuesday, May 19, 2009

If you've been listening to Hitz.fm every morning while driving to work, you would know that they've been heavily promoting The Saturdays (whats that, you say?), a UK - based girl band, which bears some resemblance to The Pussycat Dolls. You would also know that The Saturdays were scheduled to perform live in Zouk, KL, as a teaser to their upcoming tour in July.

I happen to listen to Hitz.fm every morning.

So, after a day of work, I took a quick hike up the road from the office to Zouk (thats one of the advantages of working in the city centre), to catch a glimpse of what may potentially be the next PCD. The crowd milling around outside was quite small, possibly because it was smack in the middle of the week, on a Tuesday night.

DJ Rudy, from Hitz.fm warming up the crowd.

DJ Moots, also from Hitz.fm.

Nigel's shoulder.

After a round of passing out freebies, the girls themselves popped up on stage, to belt out a couple of songs.

This would be what the girls really look like.

Mollie King.

This would be Rochelle Wiseman.

This would be Frankie Sandford.

This would be Una Healy.

This would be Kel Li.

Li Ren was also there, after work.

Aaron looks.... strange... here.

Aaron and Stephanie.

This would be me.

Well, they aren't exactly the Pussycat Dolls yet, but I guess they're getting there. This time round, I could still walk in to watch them perform; I'll probably have to fight my way, claw and tooth, to do the same in future.

     Lets wait and see.

Of Krispy Kreme and Glazed Doughnuts...
Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Not too long ago, (ok, last month, which was some time ago) Krispy Kreme opened up its flagship store in Berjaya Times Square, to the eager squeals of many doughnut aficionados. If you had read the papers then, you would know that the queue that formed outside the store during the day snaked a long way down the pavement. Siok Kin and I had agreed to meet up on the same night to experience the fun of lining up to buy doughnuts (I would say that this is similar to the Twin's euphoria Yenli and Lauren used to experience, whereby they would line up for autographs) at Times Square. Earlier in the day, Lauren had dropped by my office to deliver some of the heavily sought-after food items (thanks ya), but I still wanted to pop by the place to see what it was all about.

After work, the sight that greeted me was rather... quiet. I had expected a loud, bustling crowd of people pushing and shoving to get their hands on a Krispy Kreme. Instead, it was a benign crowd, listlessly moving along a red carpet, looking bored and dazed. Siok Kin had arrived slightly earlier, and I rather unabashedly cut queue. Strangely enough, no one really bothered, having more interesting things to stare at (the doughnut production line, for instance).

The doughnut production line.

Siok Kin, paying for sugar-coated-fried-flour.

Personally, having tasted the doughnuts, I found them to be sweeter than what I could handle. Of course, having 3-4 glazed doughnuts in a single sitting may not have been a very smart idea (unless you're open to the idea of diabetes). Still, I believe the hype over the doughnut was a tad overpronounced, but then again, I'm not really a doughnut fan, so it probably wouldn't be fair for me to comment.

Many-flavoured doughnuts.

This sign, when lighted up, will send many people rushing to the store.

Of course, this girl standing here would also send many (male) people rushing to the store.

The boxes resemble pizza boxes.

A rather nice Krispy Kreme moment (if only we didn't look dead tired)

All in all, I guess everyone has their favourite doughnut. I think I'll stick to J.CO, for now.

Blog Under Renovation!
Saturday, May 09, 2009

Dear readers,

Does everything seem rather... white?

This blog is undergoing renovation, and similar to a physical renovation (minus the noisy drilling, concrete dust, and wood), everything will seem pretty messy and bare-boned, until the works are complete.

Which shouldn't be too long from now!

Of The Apartment, and Fantabulous Cake...
Tuesday, May 05, 2009

After a gruelling ACCA session, it was a pleasant drive down to The Apartment, KLCC, where the Band of Squash Brothers and Ladies were already waiting for their orders to arrive.

Dinner started off rather quietly, as how all formal dinners are supposed to. Of course, this quickly degenerated into a friendly discourse about everything under the sun, which is normally the case when these fellows get together.

This goes to show, one can camwhore with any type of camera.

The creamy Chicken Cream and Mashed Potato.

Here, Vincent is portrayed as a thinker.

The ladies!

The lady with an exceptional liking for porcelain noses.

The birthday girl, and Shino!

Above + me and Pei Wen!

Even though they were coerced into taking this, they are normally very romantic. (cue 'aww' sounds)

After the dinner was over, and I was stirring my black coffee, Shino surreptiously winked at Su-Lyn, who winked back at Shino. This carried on for some time, until Shino brought the birthday girl away from the table, to powder their noses. Su-Lyn immediately went into action, and whipped out the piece de resistance of the night...

...The Fantabulous Crumbled Cake.

Now, although it may seem slightly crumbled, and about to flow all over the table, in reality, it was like nothing I ever tasted before. True, the candles had some trouble standing in the creamy sauce?/topping?/icing?, and literally melted away into the cake, but that didn't stop us (at least me and Choong Hoe) from taking a spoon to it, and doing it justice.

A close up view of The Fantabulous Crumbled Cake.

The Fantabulous Crumbled Cake, and its maker.

Su-Lyn, preparing the cake.

Ying Yie, celebrating her birthday with the Fantabulous Cake.

"Wow. This is a really good cake..."

We all love the cake. Kudos to Su-Lyn!

The Reader.

Shino in deep contemplation.

The Compulsory Group Photo.

The night ended with a hot cup of coffee in Quattro, where, thereafter, I drove home and slept.

     Quite an evening.
