The Nuffnang/Nokia Silent Halloween - A Teaser Trailer...
Sunday, November 02, 2008

It was almost 3a.m., the traditional witching hour, when I finally reached home. I was exhausted, the camera heavy in my hand, laden with pictures and footage from the bizzare event I had just left. Tired as I was, I quickly began the lengthy process of transferring the photos from the device to my computer. Eager to tell my story of the macabre and gruesome (and downright funny), I started tapping away on my keyboard...

The gateway to Hell (and free flow of soft drinks)

A rather small mummy.

Gene Simmons and Ju-On never looked scarier.

What have I gotten myself into?!?!!

Stay tuned for a complete update on Nuffnang/Nokia's Silent Halloween Party! (with pictures in full colour)

     Coming soon! (cue evil laughter)

Of Amazing Buses/Coaches and Urine Tests...
Tuesday, October 28, 2008

On the 25th of October, the Putra Heights Community Centre was a hotbed of activity, as people from all over the Putra Heights area streamed into the little building to get their health checked by the good people from the National Kidney Foundation. The event began at 9a.m., and even then, people were already queueing up to fill out the mandatory forms for the check.

Our very own church members were at hand to render assistance, and you could see the determination and cheerfulness in the eyes of the volunteers who manned the various stations at the ground and 1st floor of the building.

The banner says it all.

Members of the community filling out forms.

The urine test checkpoint.

After the results had been obtained, one can speak to the consultants who were all too ready to tell you what was wrong with you.

Irene hides in the shadows.

U Turn Sign for the Toilet.

Pastor Tim also enjoys sitting in front of lighting shops.

Grace enjoys her work.

Grace really enjoys her work.

Grace enjoys her work a bit too much.

Halfway through the event, we decided to explore the amazing bus/coach that the NKF came in. The bus/coach is a mobile testing centre, and the staff of NKF could actually have conducted the health checks from inside the bus/coach, since it was fully equipped with seats, tables, airconditioner, consultation booths, and even a height index. I was quite jakun about the whole thing, so I couldn't pass up the chance to mince about inside, even though there were no staff on board.

From the outside, it looks like any other bus (complete with happy family picture)...

...but on the inside...

This is how tall Pastor Tim is.

At 3 o'clock, the event came to an end, and we began the laborious task of dismantling and carrying the furniture downstairs, and back to the church. After the intensely exciting session of moving chairs and tables down the stairs, we locked the doors, and called it a day.

I'm still quite jakun about the bus/coach.

Of Zombies and Rotting Corpses...
Tuesday, October 21, 2008

It was rather late in the night when I switched off my laptop and began to prepare for bed. As I glanced around the darkened room, however, I noticed a little shadowy figure at the corner of my eye, barely perceptible in the gloom. Quickly turning around, I managed to catch a glimpse of the sinister shadow scurrying away, in the direction of my door. Peering carefully, it was rather shocking to notice that the figure was dessicated, with skin falling away from its body, displaying in shocking contrast, white bones and rotting organs. Its limbs were deathly thin, with more appendages than any human ever possessed. The dark sockets that served as eyes seemed to stare in my direction with an evil malevolence, and I could hardly believe my senses as the dead creature stood poised, waiting for me to react towards its unholy presence.

Swallowing nervously, I reached for my camera, not daring to disturb the stillness of the night, lest I send the mysterious figure running away. As slowly as I could, I brought the viewfinder to my eyes, and the moment my finger touched the button, the flash popped, bringing out the image of the dead creature with frightening clarity*.

The horror that lurks in the night.

Just a little something to prepare my dear readers for the upcoming Silent Halloween Party hosted by Nuffnang and Nokia and to set the tone for a truly interesting event ahead. Stay tuned for more horror stories!

*Joshua, I'm not sure if you read my blog, but if you do, I suggest you do not click on the button.

Booze and Whole Lot of Weird Stuff @ MOS' Euphoria...
Saturday, October 18, 2008

Every so often, you'll come across a blog post or Facebook photo album with the title, "Fun @ Euphoria, MOS" or some such. This time round, its my turn to wax lyrical about the wonders of the Ministry of Sound's club in Sunway which I experienced during Johnson's 22nd birthday bash which was held there.

Kohilan looks like he's about to pick a fight. He didn't, though.

It was drizzling when I pulled up at the Sunway hotel, and everyone was huddling under the little awning right in front of the club. After the obligatory hello's and how are you's, we proceeded inside to the private room which Johnson had kindly booked in anticipation of getting roaring drunk. It started off pretty slowly, with the guests (some of whom have never met prior to this) mingling and chatting each other up, while the alcohol began to flow from the cannon and smaller bottles lying around the table. Me, being me, whipped out the camera, and started snapping away.

Li Ping is good at these sort of shots, and Yi Jin is good at being in these sort of shots.

Eelaine is always ready for the candid shots (thus rendering them non-candid).

The lovely ladies. (with a few more wandering around behind the camera) Esther, Michelle, Sarah, Eelaine, Joey, and Ms. Soo (Li Ping)

Johnson is inevitably happy.

Kian Siang and Zhao Heng, the Druggies.

Esther, Siok Kin, and Joey.

Li Shian also made an appearance.

Zati (Xaty?), Zaim, and Nabil.

Zati (Xaty?) and Eng Teck!

Esther and I.

Shamini looks surprised, here.

As the night wore on, the music became louder, the people became less sober, and everyone became happier, with homosexual tendencies running rampant.

Keat and Kohilan. Strangely, neither of them were drunk when they were doing this...

...or this...

...or this..

...or this...

...or this...

...or this.

Throughout the whole night, the sentence I heard the most was, "Eh, you here ah?", with looks of incredulity, like I had just risen from the dead. I guess I'm far from being a model clubber, hence the misconception that I'd die a painful death the moment I step into one.

Zati (Xaty?) and I. One of the few girls who don't need to check the photo to approve it, as long as her eyebrows can be seen.

Chin Ju, Zaim, Kwo Kuang.
Chin Ju got brained by an ice cube, Zaim was overzealously into picture-taking, and Kwo Kuang was, well, Kwo Kuang.

Here, the birthday boy was beginning to show signs of intoxication.

Siok Kin and I.

Siok Kin, Esther, and Weng Lum.

Since I look like I'm being electrocuted when I start dancing, I decided to refrain from going onto the dance floor, and decided to explore the place. Interestingly enough, it was a rather large complex with many stairways that led everywhere. The glass bridge overlooking the dance floor was just perfect for capturing shots of the invigorated crowd gyrating away to pulsating music (I was also trying to spot the Lonely Dancer*, but couldn't really see him/her).

Spot yourself!

I'm sure he was pretty happy.

I guess it was pretty tiring entertaining the guests for the whole night, so Johnson decided to take a nap on the couch. His cousin also felt tired, and also decided to snooze for a bit on the other couch.

Kohilan, Esther and Donovan enjoy taking pictures with tired people who are sleeping.

Yomae, Sue Ann, Sarah, and Pointy Fingers.

Joey, Siti, Kohilan, me, and Sarah.

The BusinessPeople.

Eelaine was the last person I took a photo with. =)

     After the music had died down, and everyone had their fill of alcohol and chit chat, we slowly filed out to Ming Tien (to which I misdirected Weng Lum) and had the customary yumcha and food. Feeling extremely peckish, I ordered the pork and taufoo dish, which Li Ping was rather astounded to see. Since I wasn't entirely sure what to call it (the stall said it sold Duck Porridge), Yi Jin had a brilliant insight;

Yi Jin: Got pork. Got taufoo. Can call it taufoopok.

It was also Yi Jin that kindly informed me that DotA stood for Defense of the Asians. I was awed by his wisdom and deep knowledge of the subject.

With that, I finished my (hot) coffee, bade everyone goodnight, zoomed past 2 horrific accidents along the highway, and made my way home.

A very fun time snapping pictures and laughing at people.

     Who's birthday is next?

*The Lonely Dancer is the individual who dances (alone) to his/her own tune in a club, to the amusement of nearby observers. - Kohilan, 2008

How Not To Surprise Your Pastor @ Vietnamese Kitchen
Tuesday, October 14, 2008

The meeting point was supposed to be CIMB OCBC Bank, where we would all gather before sneaking into Vietnamese Kitchen, a few doors down the street. After everyone had gathered in the quiet lobby of the bank, we prepared the cake and made our way down the dark corridor, trying to see where our pastor and Jee Jin (the person assigned to suddenly have 'emotional issues' so as to get the guy out to dinner) where seated.

We gathered in a bank.

Jaime reads her palm to determine the future, before going into the restaurant.

Having lit the candles, we trooped into the restaurant (probably to the irritation of the other patrons) and sang the customary song at the top of our voices (see how we sang it below)

The Singing SANS

     Not very surprisingly, the Good Pastor didn't seem to be in the least taken aback by the sudden show, and took it all with an aplomb that spoke of prior anticipation. Apparently, it was quite obvious, since someone that morning came up to him and they had the following conversation;

Person X: "Pastor, sorry ah, I can't make it for your dinner tonight."
Pastor Tim: "What dinner?"
Person X: "Oh, yah. Er. Noler, nothing. I was dreaming about something. Bye!"
(conversation reenacted to the best of the blogger's ability, since he wasn't actually there)

Jee Jin enjoys his drink. He really enjoys it.

Lai San finds himself attracted to the menu in front of Sandra. (or is it the menu that he's really interested in?)

Pastor Timothy.

Pleasant fellowship around the table.

We had fish (among other things).

Group photo (without me in it.. where's the one with everyone inside?)

Anyhow, it was a pleasant dinner, and we found out that the round tables in Vietnamese Kitchen are hard pressed to fit 13 hungry people all at the same time. Close fellowship, they call it.

The Happy (But Unsurprised) Man

     In all, very interesting.
