Nottingham Graduation Fiesta 2008... Sunday, July 20, 2008
The day started with a slightly confused Cheah family missing the turn to the IOI Resort, and travelling several kilometres into Sri Kembangan, before turning back and picking the right road. I walked into the hotel and into a scene straight from Harry Potter during the Yule Ball (well, almost, if Harry Potter and his friends were Asian). Everyone swished about in robes, and flashbulbs popped everywhere, as parents went crazy with their cameras. I discovered that the line to the robes was snaking all the way out the hall, but thanks to Yheng Mun and gang, who were already slightly ahead, Lauren and I managed to get fitted in time to enter the hall (in other words, we subtly cut queue).
A graduation ceremony is, well, a graduation ceremony, and I don't think anyone will really expect it to be as entertaining as a night in Euphoria (by M.O.S.!), or 2 and a 1/2 hours watching the Dark Knight, but still, as far as graduation ceremonies go, it was rather decent. Thank God I had Joey to banter with, or else I would have fallen asleep or gone into fits halfway through the event. The following pictures are mostly taken after the event, and I think the whole album can be labeled "Me Taking Photos With People Wearing the Same Smile and Same Clothes".
The first person I took a photo with on that day - Lauren Foo! Shino, Su Lyn and Pei Wen (where's Choong Hoe eh?) Shen-Myin and Melvin are bored with the proceedings (so was I) Joey! (who managed to walk up the stairs in a pencil skirt) Yee Ming! (who didn't wear a pencil skirt) To prove that I attended the right ceremony. Hon Chien, Joey, and Shen Myin The people definitely weren't really prepared for this one. Patsy smiles a lot. And no, they weren't really arguing. Although I have no chin, but still... ok, there's no consolation. Joyce! Lauren (with without mortar board) Yi Yang (or rather, Yang), who is related to... ...Yi Pin! Celia, Justin, and Gean. Kenny is rather tall. Me and Eugene, off-skewed. This is what happens when your dad takes the photo.  Weng Lum, Eng Teck, Daniel, and Anne came to lend some support. There's Anne and Daniel (looking good, as always) The Cheahs. Yau Fee. Abang Panther. Starbrother. Still,no name is as cool as E Guy. Kwo Kuang.
Since we came pretty late, a few of us queued up yet again to take the individual photo. It was only after about 2 hours of slowly inching our way forward along the Selangor room that we managed to hold our scrolls in front of a fake library background.
Joshua, who looked rather monk-ish in that hair, and robes. Enakshi! Kian Siang, the Malaccan boy, still pretty retarded. Yheng Mun, Soon Kheng, Joon Jiun, and Melvin. I heard Jeannie say, "Hey, lets take a photo of my camera..."... ...when it was actually WITH her camera. (and with Alicia) Siok Kin and the Klang Shuffler, Weng Phoon. Kian Siang, and Siok Kin. Ying Yie. Queenie! Lauren, who decided NOT to take the individual photo. Su Yin. Ker Pei (who looks slightly like Joyce, when viewed from afar) And the last picture of that event, with Nicole. =)
The good Kian Siang dropped me off in Subang, where I showered, slept for 10 minutes, then made my way to Sunway Pyramid for dinner with the gang at Jack's Place. Upon arrival, however, I discovered that the Sunway Pyramid parking lot was practically packed to the brim with cars, and had a merry time driving around trying to find a space. I thought I was pretty late when I finally made it to the restaurant, since it was supposed to start at 7, but lo and behold! Lauren and I were the first two (with the exception of Kian Siang who was already there, but decided to get a haircut because he had nothing to do) to occupy the table. The others slowly filtered in, and dinner finally commenced at 9. After an hour of chatter and reminiscing, half the gang decided to try out Euphoria (which is more interesting than a graduation ceremony) while the other half went off to do their own stuff. Lauren and I payed a short visit to Manny, K.C., Weng Phoon and gang, and then ended the night with a nice conversation at the Coffee Bean, Sunway Pyramid.

Of Nescafe Mugs and Batman Photos... Wednesday, July 16, 2008
Its only the middle of the week, and I'm already half dead. On the brighter side, I recently submitted a Photoshop-ed piece to kyspeaks.com, in lieu of his Batman : The Dark Knight premiere ticket giveaway, and my work was featured on the site!
I submitted this (thats really my Touch N Go card)... ...and managed to get some votes! Woo!
Ok, no need to point out the large gap between the winners and my own votes. Still, I'm pleasantly surprised that my half-baked work actually came to light. Congrats to the two winners! (read the article here)
On Saturday, I made a snap trip to Seremban (as communicated to Sue Ann and Lynn) for lunch and a bit of walking around Jusco (in Seremban 2).
This is how the road to Seremban looks like from the outside of a car. Since Joyce didn't want close-up shots, I aceded to her request. Note that my head is significantly larger. A proper photo. This is how the road back from Seremban/Federal Territory border looks like.
Its always nice to spend time with loved ones. =)
And, another significant discovery this week...
...prior to this, I was drinking from a styrofoam cup for two weeks.
Apparently drinking too often from styrofoam cups isn't exactly healthy. I'll just add it to my list of vices, next to coffee-drinking and sleep deprivation.

Of Fast Food Outlets and Useless Globes... Saturday, July 12, 2008
There's just something about the neighbourhood fast food outlet that I love. They tend to be rather cosy, and just perfect for that quiet chat about life and its ups and downs.
Of course, the free refillable coffee helps.
It was just the other day, when the remarkable Lauren Foo drove down to Subang, then to PJ, and back to Subang again to meet up for a waffle and a rootbeer. Strangely, we discovered that A&W staff are rather friendly, with a penchant for taking photos as well.
The narcisissm in all of us. I respect the requests for privacy of the people I post on this blog, so I've used the blur filter, ala - TV3 Edisi Siasat (when they apprehend criminals make shy people anonymous)
Rather late on Friday night, I met up with Li-Lynn and Sue Ann at McDonalds, Centrepoint, and also bumped into Jo Ann and Li Shan! Again, the setting was just perfect for the serious talks and light-hearted chit chat that we always inevitably end up indulging in.
Of all things I forgot to bring, I forgot to bring my camera memory card. Thank God for camera phones.
On a totally unrelated note, I was walking home the other day when something in Louis Vitton caught my eye.
The most redundant globes I've ever seen =) Even more redundant globes.
If I was sailing around the world in 80 days, I sure wouldn't want one of these. Good thing they sell nice bags.

A Very "Hancock"-ish Day.... Wednesday, July 09, 2008
Some of you may remember a post I had put up not too long ago, with the title, "The Malaysian Superhero". No, it wasn't for the Nuffnang tickets giveaway, rather, I thought I'd try and go a different direction, and instead, I joined the All Malaysian Bloggers Project (AMBP, for lazy typists like me) competition, the "Hancock: A Different Kind of Superhero" contest.
And, somehow, I won! (click here to read)

So, on a Monday afternoon, with the aid of my cousin, Eric, I popped by TheStar office in Phileo Damansara, to claim my winnings. Michael Fredericks, the AMBP editor, wasn't around, but I managed to cajol the friendly Elizabeth into taking a photo with me.
She probably thinks I'm crazy, by now.
And the prizes were...
The Pièce de Résistance - The Sony Ericsson W660i! A Hancock (limited edition?) Namecard Holder......and In Season Double Passes! (of which I have no photo, since I've yet to claim these... I'll pop by the office again, ya?)
Cool stuff. A million thanks to the good people of AMBP! Looking forward to joining more events/contests/community service activities with you all!
However, my association with Hancock (and his merchandise) wasn't exactly over yet, as I made my way to Cineleisure for the Nuffnang screening of Hancock. Thanks to my cousin (who DID join the Nuffnang tickets giveaway), I was soon lining up to get into cinema to watch the show.
Thank God for signs. Badges, to show your support.  Thats Robb, busy handling the guests.
I actually bumped into Melody Song, and Shino, as well as new blogger friends Mayszin and Andrew!
Familiar faces and new friends You know hes a pro, with that camera he slings about his shoulder.
Strangely, I didn't snap away the whole night, like I usually do, and as such, have very few pictures. Nonetheless, it was a good movie. I've only been to Nuffnang's Pirates of the Caribbean movie screening before this, but watching the crowd in the cinema, with the flashbulbs blinking away, I'm pleasantly reminded about how a cinema full of bloggers is different from that of a normal crowd. A loud kudos and thanks to Nuffnang, for organizing the event! I'm sure there'll be more fun to look forward to, in the future.
I guess blogging has its perks. =) Now, it won't be too long before the wait for Batman: The Dark Knight, is over...

Bowling Mania! @ Sunway Pyramid Saturday, July 05, 2008
I was about to text Karen to see if she was free to 'yamcha' on Friday, when the phone rang, and, lo and behold! it was Karen asking to see if 'boleh join' for dinner at Paris, SS2. Since I reached home from KL at about 9 something, I missed the chance for that dinner, but later managed to pop in at Mega Lanes, Sunway Pyramid, for a spot of bowling.
Anne, Ven Nee, and Weng Lum Julie, myself, Karen Daniel (looking good as always), myself, and Kenny (also, err, looking good)
I was persuaded to join them for a round or two of tossing a heavy urethane ball down a long strip of lacquered wood. Despite the fact that I bowl like a penguin, I still had fun (because I live in denial).
Daniel, joyfully manning the console. Julie has ball. My funky (and not so pleasant smelling) shoes. Anne has the spirit. Yeah. "My legs look longer, in this picture..."-Julie Kuan, 2008 Julie, and Weng Lum. Despite the fact we lost, I still had fun. Because points don't count (new philosophy for the night). And my wonderful teammates will support anyone through anything. It was great seeing the fellows, like Anne and Daniel, whom I've not met in years (ok, maybe a year), and still managed to retain their sense of humour, after all this time.
Well, if I can't make it to KLIA on Thursday (AND if you read this), take care, Ms. Siah! I know you'll have a fun time, and take care of yourself! See you in December!
May you always run as far as your legs can take you.
In the meantime, I should brush up on my bowling.

Of Lonely Stations and Facebook Glitches (Part 2)... Friday, July 04, 2008
For some strange reason, my original post for this went missing. Here's a recap of what I wrote (not exactly verbatim)
After travelling to and fro from Subang to KL every morning, I've come to realize that the railway station is a pretty depressing place to be. When you're there at 6.00a.m., with the sun far from rising, about 3 hours of sleep behind you, and a whole day of grueling work to look forward to, the railway station is quite a downer.

As I was telling Eelaine (whom I've bumped into twice on the monorail), seeing a friendly face among the sullen crowd is really a sight for sore eyes. At rush hour, everyone looks like a bear thats about to bite your head off. I guess travelling via public transport does that to a person.
For the benefit of the Subang girl stuck in the U.S., heres proof that the infamous shopping mall is still, well, infamous.
The Summit is still standing, don't worry.
On another note, I was browsing Facebook the other day, when I noticed something peculiar.
Do you see anything odd? Its this.
I'm quite sure I wasn't at the Zoo, and that Mei Ling didn't accidentally upload my profile picutre into a zoo album. Strange things can happen on Facebook too.
