Nuffnang Wild LIVE Blogging - (Not So) Direct From Sri Hartamas (Anymore)
Saturday, June 21, 2008

Well, I'm here, at the glitzy Modestos/Rain, in Sri Hartamas, attending the Nuffnang's Wild LIVE Blogging event. The main concept of the day is to blog directly from the scene, so, here's my take on that particular requirement...

With any luck, this is what you could have seen that night...

Nuffnang's Wild LIVE Blogging - Live Video Feed!
(from Soon Seng's Point of View)

<<<<< Didn't work as well as it should

To use the video feed, click on "Menu" (its there, on the bottom left hand corner), followed by "Live Streaming Video". Wait a few moments, and you're good to go!
*please note that there will be a time lag, influenced by your connection speed, as well as mine, over here

About an hour before the actual thing, I dropped by Centrepoint, Damansara to meet up with Lauren and Sue Ann (who had just returned from the UK), to return her curtains, and chat. After the delightful catching up, I sped off to Sri Hartamas, where the show was about to get underway...

Myself, Lauren, and Sue Ann, at Secret Recipe

The event started with Liang excitedly calling all the bloggers to gather in front of the stage. After the necessary speeches by the organizers, food was served, and the members of the Nuffnang community started to mingle (I could see the various types of antennae and rabbit ears move about the floor)

Random fact: When I was a wee bit younger, I actually played football with Liang once
.

He is definitely in the mood.

Pam, Sheng Mae, Jentz, and Kellster.. Jentz was in my church, and Kellster was my high school senior! (more "Its a small world" moments)

Kellster, myself, Sheng Mae

Robb! Dedicated to making the event a success...

The time had finally come for me to post my "live" blog. When I pulled out my webcam, and started fiddling, however, I realised that I could only see a blank black screen, with some spots on it (apparently cheap webcams like mine don't work too well in the dark) To those of you who actually logged in to view the webcam feed, a thousand apologies.. I hope you were entertained by the scrolling marquee on the right and didn't die outright from boredom.

The crowd, in their various costumes..

Kenny Sia (yes, that IS a Pooh head under his arm), myself, and Ringo

When my (useless) webcam stream hung because of an "internal server error", I noticed that
Min Li also had some difficulty posting up her live entry.(The ladybird costume was her own work of art!)

It was about this point that, after all the games had been played, and the winners of all the various categories chosen, came the announcement of the winner for the "Live" Blogging Contest. The initial drum roll came on, and when they announced the winner... she didn't appear. I guess she had already gone home slightly earlier. So, after a short debate, they decided to award the prize to the second in line, which, strangely enough, was...me.

The crowd is enthusiastic...

Stolen from Shaolintiger... Thanks a million!

Despite the fact that my webcam streaming idea could have been thrown into the dustbin, I managed to get my hands on the prize! God IS watching from above...haha...

The man himself, Timothy Tiah! (looking exhausted)

Pinkpau, in another ladybird dress! (I just noticed the pink elephant hat behind... it looks like I'm supporting it with my head)

The night finally drew to an end, I made my goodbyes, and drove off. Halfway along the way, however, I noticed 3 fellows that I recognized from the event, trying to hail a taxi. After offering them a lift to the nearest LRT station, I experienced another "Its a small world" moment...

Kul and Frankie were studying in Trono, where another friend studies. Kul is from Malacca, and is my housemate's brother's friend. (yes, its a small world indeed =) Nice meeting you guys!

Yup, good food, free flow of drinks, young - energetic - opinionated people, wild costumes, and a whole deal of fun.

I guess thats what blogging is all about. =)

"Live" Blogging Pays Off! (the fruits of my (failed webcam) labour)

Many thanks and congratulations to Nuffnang, for an incredibly fun time, and a succesful event! Hope to see you guys again in the future!

Of Old Friends and Roti Tissue...
Wednesday, June 18, 2008

After cell group, I drove the trusty Kancil to Melur, SS19, where a gaggle of old school friends were already chatting away, with cups of tea growing cold in front of them (I arrived just in time to see Karen order a large roti tissue, which, to my delight, she needed help finishing) Some of them I've not seen in years, while the others, just last week, but it was great to notice how we've all gone from sitting under the hot sun during 'perhimpunan', to wearing ties and answering calls on the phone every 5 minutes. (photos stolen from courtesy of Karen Siah)

Han Yang and Foo Ken

Julie and Karen

Siew Ghee, Thim Zing and Kim Jee (who still looks the same)

Weng Lum, Eng Teck, and Han Yang again

Karen, Julie, Mei Huei, Ven Nee

Mervin, myself, Kenny,
Jackie (who grew darker again)

The good 'ol times. Sigh. How I miss those days.

            Life goes on, I guess.

Who knows which part of Subang is this?

Its going to be a long, difficult, journey, from here on.

Next up: Nuffnang's Wild LIVE Blogging Event - Log in to -Soon Seng's Corner - on Saturday, June 21st, 7.00p.m., for live event updating, from Modestos, Sri Hartamas!

Of Airports and Wifi...
Saturday, June 14, 2008

            Its been a week since Yenli went off to the Land of the Free. In a conversation during my last supper with her at McD's (this doesn't sound right), we spoke about how life would be there;

The Interview With Yen

Yen: Sure damn sad wan lor.
Me: You'll eat more and grow fat.
Yen: How you know? Maybe I work everyday then become thinner (points at chin) But then hor, when I'm depressed, I eat more.
Me: You'll eat a lot of chips. Then you might get more pimples.
Yen: How la?
Me: Would you rather get pimples or fat?
Yen: I dunno..!! (high-pitched)
Me: So, in conclusion, you'll get depressed, pimples and fat. Either that, or you'll find a guy there;, be happy, and stay thin and pimple-free, since all of these come together.

Somehow, in the long run,I think its the latter.

At the unexpected send-off at the airport.

They have self check in machines. Its very cool for the jakun in me.

Min Foong! Also going off. Apparently getting his shopping list later.

Bag refuses to fit.

While their families were saying goodbye, we felt out of place tagging along, so we took a picture with this tree.

I made too loud a comment about wanting to see how young Quek's sisters looked, so in the end, I took a photo with them. They look really young.

The Group Photo.

Lauren and I walked along that pathway, and snapped a shot of this.

A week later, I dropped by Semenyih for the last time (*gasp!*) to pack up the last of my stuff. In the end, it actually took up about 6 boxes, although they were the 'small' items I left for last.

The empty room....(....)

            On that Thursday, I dropped by Seremban for lunch with Joyce in A&W Seremban, and while transferring photos to a thumbdrive, noticed something amusing;

I was JUST telling Joyce about the Majlis Perbandaran Seremban initiative to provide Wifi access around the Lake Gardens area, and she replied, "Got people use wan ah?" Hehe. People like me, yes.

Joyce and I =)

After that episode, I drove down to KL to drop off the robes forms for graduation, at the robesmakers Ede and Ravenscroft (I suddenly feel like Harry Potter in Diagon Alley), and met several Nottingham-ers with the same agenda in mind there. The place is along Jalan Dang Wangi, and apparently, later that day, there was a peaceful demo against the fuel price hike right on the street in front of the building. Good thing I got away on time (envisions being knocked over by water cannons).

            A very interesting week.

p.s. For those of you who passed me the robes forms to submit, I have your receipts
p.p.s I also have the receipts of the Uni Graduation forms. Please remind me to give them back. Thank you!

Well, here goes.. Another set! (Hopefully, one day, my talent as a cutter-and-paster will be recognised, and I'll become insanely rich).

My first attempt at a cartoon. Hmmm.

See, Jeannie, I didn't do anything horrible.. =) (and I didn't even have to change the name)

And I STILL haven't watched the movie...

Roaring My Way to Nuffnang Wild ‘Live’ Blogging!
Tuesday, June 10, 2008

I've always thought that it'd be sheer fun to blog right from the scene of an event, instead of coming home, powering up the trusty (but old) laptop, plug in a SD card to transfer a ridiculous amount of photos, and wait for eternity while I upload the pictures to Flickr before I can even begin to write about the event (which, after all these techno-babble, would have become outdated).

Now, Nuffnang, together with Maxis Broadband, is hosting a blogger's event, where you can actually blog live (in fact, you're encouraged to) from right smack in the middle of the happenings! Dubbed The
Nuffnang's Wild LIVE Blogging event, its a theme party hosted in Modesto's, Sri Hartamas, where bloggers will be seen decked out in all manners of animal wear.

Here's a logo for the event.

We must always have logos.

I guess the 'live' blogging was conceived after observing animals and their mannerisms.

How cats survive during droughts (provided they don't fall in)

For garbage lovers, its an acquired taste

The lesson we can learn? We can do anything in even the oddest places (and yes, that includes blogging) which can be anywhere from the comfort of your own toilet to the glitzy glamour of Modesto's joint in Sri Hartamas.

Its going to be an extremely interesting event, where I believe one will be able to see all kinds of people in even more types of apparel. With the amount of creative talent thats going to be gathered in one location, I'm sure there's going to be plenty of sights to behold.

This would probably be the least confused creature you'll spot on that night

Yup, there's going to be a wild time to be had..With fingers crossed, maybe I'll get to be part of it too!

Have a look at it here!

Our Friends Are Famous! (Part 1)
Saturday, June 07, 2008

To keep my dear readers occupied while my dull life undergoes its normal event-less cycle, here is a sample of what my Photoshop-ing (when I'm bored in-between doing stuff) has resulted in.

He actually commissioned this himself...

I know she doesn't look anything like a pirate, but I couldn't think of anything else for now...

Seeing his face, I just HAD to do this one...

It takes me approximately 10-15 minutes to make one of these, but apparently its good for a short chuckle.

Yes, yes, I know, I should go watch the actual movies.

          Anyone want to be famous?
