Interactors in a Cave..
Saturday, June 09, 2007

I recently installed a new scanner/printer at home, so I took the opportunity to scan some of my old pictures that I took using an analogue camera (yes, those days, people used film). I was halfway through my collection when I stumbled across an interesting album.

On the 11th of January, 2003 (thats over 4 years ago), the Interact Club took part in a caving/charity event organised by the Rotary Club of Subang. This was a joint event, and, together with the Interactors of SMKDJ, and the orphans of the Sunbeams home, we boarded a schoolbus which brought us to Gua Tempurung.

        Now, since it was over 4 years ago,the exact events that occured is rather hazy (I blame my poor memory and a diet of outside food) However, during those days, I normally wrote reports* on this sort of thing, and, thankfully, I still keep those reports. Here's a rough outline of what happened (with photos!);

The gang after the caving (food is of utmost importance)

The DJ-ians (see a familiar face? =)

Some of the SJ-ians

During the night, after dinner, the two schools were asked to put up a performance.

Eu Bing, on his expensive guitar.

This is where my (cheap) Pyramid guitar made her debut

A group photo with the orphans

After the whole affair, we all met up in Julie's room, where Kosheila introduced us to the game of "Mafia". (don't ask me, I STILL can't remember how it went)

        Interact SJ Committee, 2002/2003

We made a lot of noise

The next morning saw us helping out at the orphanage.

Yes, the white shirts are free gifts

And, finally, before we left for home, we took a photo at the Hyatt.

Its photos like these that bring back oh so many memories of simpler times. I wonder where everyone has gone to?

        Interactors, a get-together, someday? =)

Snapped during a recent trip to USJ..

Amazing..

    The driver must have been;

    A.) Extremely skillful..
B.) Extremely high or shot up..

..to have managed to achieve this.

Thats rather interesting, I must say.

Of Small Burgers and Increasing Appetites
Monday, June 04, 2007

        I was just having a MSN conversation the other day with Joyce, about food, when we came across this topic;

It was then that I thought to myself. Hmm.. Kinda true..

Maybe my appetite just increased, and I need to eat more these days.

Or perhaps chicken around the world have shrunk.

       God only knows.

How To Reformat a Computer and Install Windows.. The Soon Seng Way
Saturday, June 02, 2007

Recently, Joyce asked for some assistance in reformatting a computer, and reinstalling Windows XP. I sent over a file with photos I took, detailing the steps to accomplish the task. Since I already have the photos, I thought I'd just post them up. There are many ways to do the same thing (reformat and reinstall), but I thought this would be an easier way to do it.

*disclaimer: Soon Seng shall not bear any responsibility for any complications that may arise through this tutorial. This includes software and hardware malfunction, and possible coffee addiction. If uncertain, please conduct this exercise in the presence of an experienced person*

Warning! For non-coffee-lovers, please ignore all references to coffee and coffee drinking contained within the article. Thank you!

Soon Seng's Guide to Reformatting Your Computer and Reinstalling Windows

Checklist

First, make sure you have done the following;
1. Backed up your irreplaceable files.
2. Prepared the operating system CD (in this case, Windows XP) and the relevant drivers needed to run the computer.
3. Have at hand a sachet of Nescafe 3-in-1 Coffee, Regular (Strong will do as well)

Make sure you have coffee

Instructions

1. Insert the Windows cd into the cd tray (not the diskette drive, that'll just ruin your cd), and restart the computer.
2. During boot-up, press and hold the F8 key (its between the F7 and F9 key)
3. A list of sources that you can boot-up from will appear. Use the arrow keys to select the CD boot-up option.
4. You will be prompted to press any key to boot from CD. Press any key.
5. The blue screen will appear, and the drivers will load. This will take some time, so just wait until the process is complete.

You will see this screen (without my face and blog address at the bottom)

6. While loading the drivers, you may boil a kettle of water.
7. After the drivers have loaded, you will then see the Window's Setup screen. Press Enter to continue.

Press Enter!

8. It will bring you to a License Agreement document. Press F8 to continue. (if you don't agree with the License Agreement, press Esc, and consider using Linux)
9. Right after that, you'll come to this page. Since you'll want to install a fresh copy of Windows, press Esc.

Press Esc!

10. The setup will then ask you to choose which partition to install into. Normally, this will be the C: drive, so, select C: and press Enter.

Select C: and press Enter

11. This drive would normally already have Windows installed on it, thus, Setup will ask if you want to overwrite the existing Windows. Press C to continue.

Press C!

12. The Setup will now bring you to the format options page. Choose "Format the partition using the NTFS file system" option.

Choose the highlighted part..

And voila! Thats it! Just follow the instructions, and fill in the configuration forms as prompted!

13. Pour the hot water boiled earlier into a cup, and mix with the contents of the coffee sachet. Wait till slightly cool, then enjoy.

To prevent injury, wait until the temperature goes below boiling point before consumption

Gluttony In Bangsar.. How We Ate 25 Dishes of Seafood
Thursday, May 31, 2007

About a year back, I went to a seafood buffet, in One Bangsar. When the promotion came back, this time 'round, I excitedly informed my fellow unimates about it, and, of course, there were several takers. The way the buffet worked was, you could order any dish from a list that they gave, any number of times, except for  the crab, scallops, and sharksfin soup, which you could only order once. This would be the sort of deal that sends people like Kohilan and Weng Hoe running to restaurant. Here's what happened..

The signboard at the front of the restaurant

Proudly proclaiming that I reserved 5 seats

Here, at this point, we were all hungry, and ready to take on anything that they brought.

Still hungry, and waiting to whack everything in sight

So, we ordered out first round of dishes.

3 Very Nice Dishes

Very well, since we were on a roll, we quickly summoned the waitress, and placed another round of orders.

6 Nice Dishes

Here, we were starting to show signs of being full.. But, being a buffet (and cos we're Malaysian), we just had to make the most of our money.

Slightly near the brim

Happy with large amounts of food

So we ordered another round of 15 dishes.

15 Immensely Huge Portions of Food

Soon Seng: "Can still eat or not?"
Weng Hoe :"Of course!"

At this point, our Malaysian (kiasu) spirit drove us to wipe off the rest of it, although I could almost see prawns come out of Joshua's eyes, and sotong spring out from Weng Hoe's ears.

Maybe we might have overeaten

After spending about 3 hours, and RM38++ per person, we finally decided to stop eating and move out of the place. VERY slowly.

Nice group photo

Gluttons, all of us.

        Not bad for RM38++.

All Souled Out..
Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Weng Lum was due to fly to the US on Thursday, so, seeing as how we wanted to send him off on a nice tone, coupled with Sue Ann's craving for carbonara, we made  trip to Souled Out, in Desa Sri Hartamas. Here are some pictures to ogle at.

We were the first to arrive

Looking at the prices, I immediately knew what I wanted; Cheese Naan, RM6.00

Cheese Naan and Spinach (with Cheese) RM6.00 + RM5.00

Weng Hoe, Me, Sue Ann, Tony

Weng Lum, Sue Ann, Joshua, Weng Hoe

People laughing at something

The cinnamon stick that came with the coffee

Although it looks like my face is made of plastic.. its actually not

After dinner, we sat around for some time to decide what to do next (note: Yenli still hadn't arrived) So, we finally made a group decision to watch a movie at Cineleisure, the Curve. Alas! To our dismay, there were no movies to be watched, (unless anyone recommends Pocong! 2). A trifle disappointed, we went down to the fountain area and sat down to decide on our next course of action. (this is where Yenli arrived)

It looks like Ze Xin was inspired to rap

"The A is missing.." - Jitfu

Yenli looking forlorn.. (cos she had to pay RM1 for parking)

We sat for so long that we started becoming spastic

Sue Ann and Yenli were quick to react

We eventually ended up in McDonald's, outside the Curve. To make my RM2.15 sense worth it, I ended up drinking a Milo, refilled it with coffee, then refilled it with tea, then refilled THAT with tea. I am kiamsiap, I tell you.

Ronald McDonald and Friend

Sue Ann couldn't stop laughing.. =)

I like spinach. Especially when its mixed with cheese.
