The Christmas spirit was definitely in the air, when we stepped into TGIF, 1 Utama. Faint sounds of caroling wafted into the cosy ambience, as we were ushered into a quiet spot for two, and left with menus to place our order.
I had finally managed to squeeze the time to claim the dinner that I had won from Nuffnang (bringing Joyce along to savour the food), and we found ourselves poring over the menu to see what we could splurge on.
Many thanks to the good people over at Nuffnang, and TGIF as well, for a memorable evening!

Battle of the Bands, 2007...
Saturday, December 15, 2007
I was at home, working on my assignment, when the phone suddenly rang.
Yenli: "Eh, Battle of the Bands (BOB).. Wan to go not? After that we go tapau burger." Me : "Hm.. Dunnoler.. I don't think I'll be going ler.." Yenli: "Why not? I fetch you la." Me : "I just came home from friend's dinner. And got things to do." Yenli: "Must go! You bring your things there to do." Me : "Okler, when you want to come? And your laptop still with me.." Yenli: "I come over now.."
15 minutes later...
SMS MESSAGE: Yenli: Very jam oh! I'm still in front of summit
30 minutes later, we swung by to pick Kwo Kuang, and headed down to Sunway Lagoon, where the event was being held.
Yen, Kwo Kuang, and I Good 'ol lion On the way there though, we got a call saying that it was too late, and the event was already over. Being Yenli, she was still adamant on at least trying to catch one act, since she had already suffered through a jam to reach the place. Things didn't really bode well, though, when we went on the escalator...
No one going down to the Surf Pool... ...and everyone headed upwards, to the exit. It was a relief when we reached the place, and saw a sizeable number of people still congregating in front of the stage. Here, the various celebrities were singing, while waiting for the results of the competition to be tabulated.
Liang, the MC for the night Denise This guy looks like he got punched really hard on the arm Kenny Sia (with his eyes closed) They finally announced the winner... ...which was Bus Company (sound familiar?) Yaobang caught a Mamee packet thrown to the crowd The People Who Like to Watch BOB and Eat Burgers After the thing ended, I followed Yenli to look for stars to take photos with. Yenli spotted Denise, who was already hurrying away at the time. I skipped over to ask for a photo, but her entourage smiled apologetically, and said it was too late. As I turned back to tell Yenli that she had missed her chance, Adam C. walked by. Yenli, not wanting to end the night without taking at least ONE photo with a celebrity, called out, "Adam.. Adam..". Since I don't think anyone could possibly have heard her, I sprinted over, and tapped him on the shoulder, which brought him to a halt.
Me, Adam C., Yenli (he was very friendly about the whole thing)
Since we couldn't find anyone else, we were all about to leave, when Yaobang spotted Hannah Tan. Needless to say, the whole group straggled like ducks over to where she was standing, to get a closer glimpse. We started the picture snapping with...
...me and Hannah...
...followed by...
...Yenli and Hannah...
...and...
...Yaobang and Hannah...
...and in the end, it was...
...Quek and Hannah... ...Kwo Kuang and Hannah... ...Heng Wen and Hannah... ...Kok Lim and Hannah... ...and lastly, with Ren Yi and Hannah. I must say, she was rather patient with the whole bunch of us queueing up like we were at a supermarket checkout counter, but I guess shes already all too used to it.
Members of the (Official) Hannah Tan Fan Club (its really official. we all filled out forms)
We parted ways after that, and headed over to the burger lori stall in SS15. But, being us, we just couldn't resist taking some other shots along the way.
Kwo Kuang and Yenli, in an artistic cover Trying to see who would win the Bigger Eye Competition... ...which I think I won. The Burger Shop Not a bad night. And the craving for Ramly burger was finally fulfilled.
Hoorah.

Christmas Night @ The Great Hall
Friday, December 07, 2007
Christmas came a bit early to Nottingham, this year. On the 5th of December, the student association organised Christmas Night, where everyone gathered together to a night of music and song.
We started the night with Pass-The-Antlers Lauren and ! (I got the Antlers this time) Joyce and I =) Remember this bunch of jokers?
Yes, thats right. Thats Chocolate Sundae. Performing, yet again. Sue Ann and I
That has to be the thinnest Santa I've ever seen Yenli, Joyce, Siok Kin Kohilan was dragged into a mini-game... ... where he became a newspaper tree. (his group won, btw) Shanti's kids from Desa Amal Jireh gave an excellent performance that night The People Who Sat Upstairs Looks like Zouk. Ok, almost. I caught Sue Ann standing on a random chair. (I found out later that she was looking for Kohilan & Co.) The Gang Well, quite a fun night. Certainly makes me look forward to the actual (Christmas) day. I guess I'll have to start my Christmas shopping pretty soon.

We finally managed to make a trip down to the highly recommended Jogoya, in Starhill, KL. Zhao Heng had been itching to go to the Japanese buffet place for ages, so, on yet another impulsive whim, we braved jams and hot weather to swing by the city centre. I neglected to bring my digital camera, and thus had to rely on everyone's camera phones for the following pictures.
The nice entrance

Before we started eating

The food, nicely arranged before we went mad and messed everything up

Baked oysters. I believe we overdosed on this.

Instructions on how to make tea.

My happiness levels shot up when I saw this

I had the salmon head (almost) all to myself

For some reason, I think this fish looks cute

After the meal, everyone was a bit high

Siok Kin had difficulty looking at the camera...

.. as you can see here...

..and here
After the meal, we had a walk around Starhill before going home.
The Vertu phone was so expensive that I couldn't even take a photo of it
Its always fun to stuff yourself in the presence of good friends.

On a humid Wednesday night, 25 TCC (Taylor's Community Centre)-ians converged on Relish, a burger-joint in the heart of KL, to (pre) celebrate Joyce's 21st birthday. I had originally booked tables at Nero Teca, but at the last minute, was unable to get them due to the large number of people that were attending the function. It was a good thing that Weng Lum suggested Relish (which was just beside Nero Teca), and a phone call later, we were set for the event.
When we were ushered into a private function room on the upper floor, I heaved a sigh of relief; our inevitable crazy antics wouldn't bother any other patrons. The dinner started normally, with everyone ordering their respective meals and drinks. Things started to go a little off the mark, however, when the cameras were whipped out, and everyone started moving about to snap photos of themselves, the food, the tables, and the quaint tomato sauce bottle on the tables. I'm sure Siok Kin was aghast at seeing how 'cam-whore'-rish the whole gang was, especially when Kohilan started taking pictures of himself. Nonetheless, things proceeded in a humorous manner, until the food arrived, and everyone set to gobbling burger patties and lamb shreds.

The ladies..

Happy people (who had not received their food)

Strangely, only Yenli looks blur in this picture

Kohilan proves that he can take a camwhore picture with 11 people in it
The food eventuallly finished, and it was about that point when the 'surprise' birthday cake arrived. The birthday girl blew the candles, cut the cake, and returned it to the kitchen, for them to slice it into small pieces and distribute them to everyone.

Me helping the birthday girl with samurai sword
That was when Zhao Heng, Kohilan, and Joshua went mad. Literally dancing to imaginary music, it was a hilarious sight to see the three jokers entertain themselves (and everyone else watching) with the kind of nonsense that only a genius like Zhao Heng can think of. I sincerely believe that the management had never seen such behaviour, let alone such people. Nonetheless, everyone was genuinely happy, and so was, I'm sure, the birthday girl. Many thanks to those who came to the event, and rest assured that your presence there was essential in turning it into an wonderful night.
We managed to take a PE3 Group Photo

The Three Retarded People

Yet another Three Retarded People

Finally, a group photo. (with everyone in it)
The next day, it was time for just me and Joyce to celebrate her birthday. She had always wanted to go to the Eye On Malaysia, so I thought it would be a good time to bring her there, before they packed up and left, in January.
The Eye on Malaysia, in Titiwangsa

We got the other couple in the gondola to take this picture for us

The Twin Towers and KL Tower, in the distance

The Eye, as the background
Shortly into the ride, we started to feel hunger pangs, so we were rather glad when it came to a stop, and I could take Joyce to our dinner venue.
The KL Tower, a bit closer up
We had a pleasant evening, dining on a buffet spread of Eastern and Western cuisine. I made sure that I had more of the expensive stuff, and that meant downing several mussels, various seafood, beef shanks, salmon, and other pricey items. The view of the city, of course, added a more romantic ambience to the whole thing (the soft jazz music playing in the background helped as well)
I made sure I loaded my plate with mussels and funny cheese

Not a great table number. NIce view, though

The dessert table

Some desserts

One of my lifelong dreams fulfilled; Drinking coffee at the highest point in Peninsula Malaysia

Now, after the meal, I brought Joyce home. I had promised Joyce that since I was taking her to dinner, I would not get her a gift. So I didn't.
Instead, I made her a fountain.
Yes, it will crumble into pieces after a few days For those who knew what I was up to for the past month, here is proof that the (inaccurate) replica of the Nottingham lake managed to work (with lights AND pump). Many thanks to Kohilan, for setting up the surprise in the room (I don't think that Joyce would have expected a lighted blue tub to suddenly appear in a locked room with music playing in the background), and to all those who were supportive throughout the time I was cutting the wires and painting the plaster bridge.
Joyce and her fountain
Finally, very many happy returns of the day, to my beloved Joyce. May the Good Lord bless you with many things and keep you safe and sound.
Us again
Have a good one, this year.
