Of Black Labels, Gold Bracelets, and Johnnie Walker...
Tuesday, September 07, 2010
On a dreary Wednesday evening, I got a call from Jestina from Nom-Nom, asking if I'd be interested in attending a Johnnie Walker event, since I was there for Mika Hakinnen's appearance at Quattro, last year. Being rather lifeless and having a rather empty social calendar, I gleefully agreed, and went to collect the invitation from the Nuffnang/Nom-Nom office.
Extremely generous people give extremely generous door gifts.
It was only after I collected the bag, that I found out that the by-invite-only event admitted guests sporting the gold (faux) bracelet, bearing the Johnnie Walker logo, which looked like this....
Shiny bling.
And so, with bracelet in hand, on the 28th of August, I made my way to the previously undisclosed location of Johnnie Walker's Black Circuit Lounge. In the words of the organizers,
"...as part of the Johnnie Walker Pit Crew Experience, Johnnie Walker will be hosting an ultra exclusive by-invitation only Black Circuit Lounge event on August 28th in the spirit of a Monaco after party. This adrenaline pumping and pressure running party brings entertainment of the highest sophistication and glamour to Malaysia. The venue of this exclusive party will only be revealed to the invited guests."
I arrived at the Swedish Marque (which had been converted into an overnight-discotheque) slightly early, and met Lionel and Tianchad at the entrance, also making their way in. For our efforts to appear before everyone else (I actually got the time wrong), we were rewarded with another bottle of the good stuff!
Here I am, looking midget-ish next to the extremely tall ladies in boots and coattails. This must be how Frodo feels most of the time. Tianchad, looking around for the registration booth. Dustyhawk signs himself up! (and pledges not to drive home drunk) Walking right in, we bumped into Gareth and Kimberly, who were even earlier than we were, and were gracious enough to offer us a small plot of (couch) land to plant ourselves on. The Black Labels started pouring itself out pretty quickly, and the music began to drift out from the DJ consol out front.

The pros start setting up their cameras. Kimberly and Haze! Also early at the Marque were Yean Lee and William! I recently met Yean Lee, who runs Mystique Boutique with her sister Sydney, at MOFEW'10. Along with them came Mike Yip, and Chantelle Chuah, looking extremely ravishing in a blue number. Spotted: Mervin and Ming Wei, Subang Kaki's, all. Tian Chad takes a break... to Twitter. Mike, and Chantelle! And here I am, to spoil the picture. DJ Goldfish was at hand to entertain the crowd. Here, we see Kimberly and Haze start to get footloose, while KY never loses focus. Still quite early into the night. Taking another break... to give a peace sign. Sipping drinks (I wonder where the straw came from). I was introduced to Li Ling (although I'm very sure I've seen here somewhere before) Denise! Another familiar face which I hadn't seen in years! Or rather, year. All the way from Singapore, Hui Wen! After a good six hours of walking around and sipping on a rather large quantity of Black Label, I decided to call it a night, and went home, leaving the rest of the highly energetic people to boogie the night (morning) away.
With that, many thanks to Johnnie Walker, you guys really know how to throw a party! And of course, Jestina, Nick, and the rest of the good people at NomNom/Nuffnang, for the invite!
For more photos, do visit the Johnnie Walker Facebook page (the photographers went trigger happy) by clicking on the links below!

Also, do visit the following to read more about this;
Strangely enough, the bottle I nursed all the way home has the name "Henry Golding" on it. Special edition, perhaps? (Henry, if you ever read this, do let me know if you want the bottle back)
Keep walking.
