Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Launch! (Slightly Delayed Version)
Thursday, January 15, 2009

The Nokia 5800 Xpress Music launch was held right smack in front of the Pavilion, centred at the heart of KL. When I arrived, the crowd was starting to build up, comprising of people who were genuinely interested in the new music phone and gawkers who were wondering what the heck was going on.

Almost immediately, I bumped into Theresa, a fellow N96 Racer (we took part in the race) who just decided to drop by and lend some support. Kel Li and Nigel were walking around the front, Nigel with his huge camera which puts my Canon to shame.

Kel Li!

Nigel and Aaron.

Theresa, who came from Cyberjaya (?)

The festivities began with a troupe of dancers who gyrated their way to the platform. Right after that, an amazing percussion unit took to the stage, belting out rhythms by banging on all kinds of junk strewn (strategically) around the staging area. After they had gotten the crowd slightly more enthusiastic, the General Manager of Nokia Malaysia, Vlasta, climbed up the precarious rigging to deliver the compulsory speech, followed by a short video ad of the new 5800.

The dance troupe flaunting their...errm... assets.

Strikeforce, the percussion band from Singapore thrilled the crowd right from the start.

She shook her things enthusiastically... her tambourines, that is.

The initial launch done, the Nokia IAC bands began to filter out onto the stage. First up was Doze 2 (who intends to bring hip hop back into the limelight), followed by A Mantle the Sea, and finally with indie band (from Shah Alam) Lovesick Avenue.

Hip hop people can do these things.

Simon Seow, the man who is everywhere.

The dance troupe in full force.

A Mantle, the Sea.

The Largest Golden Bull in Malaysia.

I lie you not.

Strikeforce, in an incredible performance, hammered away on drums that had water running over them, and caused the crowd to get wild and wet.

Lovesick Avenue, with their petite lead singer.

I had to retire early, but not before snapping some photos with some familiar faces.

3/3 (+ 3) of the Nokia Trio.

The Nokia 5800 is an extremely value-for-money phone, with its features and specifications bundled into a little music powerhouse you can drop into your pocket. For more info, just visit the Nokia website
